Hawaii, Big Island
Wednesday February 19th, 2003

We spent Tuesday night at Sumland and then continued on our road trip the next day. We drove through Hilo, and picked up two hitch hikers. They were two young guys from California. They had some big bags with them and we gave them a ride in the van all the way to their destination, about 40 minutes North on the highway. It was such a beautiful country. We took a 4 mile scenic route, where there were waterfalls and lush tropical vegetation everywhere you looked, but it was really just a local road in a residential area. The Big Island is a strange and wonderful place.

The view of this valley from the lookout was breathtaking!

I heard that they hold surf competitions at this beach because the breaking waves are constant.
